Tira finalmente aria nuova nei musei.

La più esauriente mostra di Urban Art mai presentata in un museo italiano porta al MADRE alcuni tra i nomi più interessanti della giovane Arte Contemporanea che nasce dalle ultime tendenze delle culture giovanili e urbane.

Mentre i parolai su fumetto e arte da decenni continuano ad accapigliarsi su fino a che punto l’uno possa azzardarsi a contaminare l’altra, e viceversa, arrivano a Napoli proprio durante il Napoli COMICON, il grande festival dedicato alla nona arte e ai suoi autori, gli artisti contemporanei più “corrotti” da fumetti e cartoon.

L’artista David Vecchiato, qui anche in veste di curatore, presenta le opere più recenti delle stelle internazionali dell’Urban Art, colleghi e amici come Gary Baseman, Boris Hoppek, Shag, Ian Stevenson, Gary Taxali, Mijn Schatje, Jon Burgerman, Jim Avignon, Junko Mizuno, Glenn Barr, Bigfoot, Naoshi, Ciou, Sergio Mora, Nathan Jurevicius, Joe Ledbetter e tanti altri artisti da ogni parte del mondo.

Tra le opere degli illustri esponenti di correnti come street art, skate art, pop surrealism, lowbrow e poster art, in mostra anche gli art-toys, fenomeno promosso con forza già da un paio di anni dalla MondoPOP International Gallery di Roma e dal magazine XL.

Per finire, Urban Superstar propone anche le grandi installazioni di Junko Mizuno, Mijn Schatje e Tokidoki della collezione Fornarina, viste all’Urban Beauty Show al Louvre di Parigi. Lo staff di Fornarina ha aderito naturalmente al prestigioso progetto Urban Superstar, perché il loro è stato tra i primi marchi internazionali a investire sulle nuove correnti artistiche e a promuovere i suoi esponenti già da anni.

L’appuntamento è sabato 25 aprile alle ore 21 con l‘Urban Party di apertura della prestigiosa collettiva, con performance e DJ tutt’altro che “da museo”. Ma la mostra sarà aperta eccezionalmente già da venerdì 24 per consentirne la visione ai visitatori che arrivano in città per il Napoli COMICON.

Tra i tanti artisti ospiti nei giorni della convention saranno a Napoli l’australiano Jeremyville e la francese Mijn Schatje, che offriranno performance e incontri con il pubblico non privi di sorprese. Lo stesso pubblico sarà invitato a partecipare alle performance.

E gli italiani? Oltre al romano Simone Legno, che col marchio Tokidoki dalla California propone un segno globale frutto di influenze giapponesi quanto USA e europee, ci saranno anche quegli artisti che hanno condiviso qua in Italia in questi ultimi quindici anni tante esperienze nell’ambito dell’arte underground e dei suoi innumerevoli eventi. AlePOP, Allegra Corbo, lo stesso David Vecchiato, Fupete, Licia Viero, Scarful, i più giovani Sten e Lex, Cesko, El Gato Chimney, le Serpeinseno, la parigina naturalizzata italiana Zelda Bomba e molti altri.

Come ricorda Vecchiato: <<in questi anni non ci siamo fatti addomesticare dalle logiche dei grigi impiegati dell’arte di casa nostra che ci chiedevano di smetterla con questi immaginari simili a fumetti, cartoon, tattoo o graffiti e così abbiamo sperimentato sulla nostra pelle la lentezza di questo Paese, rischiando di perdere l’occasione di raccontare una delle anime creative della nostra generazione. Ma imparando a gestire personalmente la produzione, la diffusione e la vendita delle nostre immagini, come ci ha insegnato zio Warhol, abbiamo ripreso un po’ il passo coi colleghi internazionali. Come curatore di Urban Superstar mi auguro che aver portato quest’arte cha ancora è viva per strada in un museo incoraggi altri giovani artisti di ogni nazionalità a far crescere nuovi sensi estetici nelle proprie comunità, concentrandosi quindi sulle passioni che uniscono e non sulle differenze che dividono.

Urban Superstar sarà inoltre un evento ricco di performance e di interazione con il pubblico perché io e molti colleghi dell’area urban crediamo che il vero momento artistico si riveli proprio nella performance, nell’attimo in cui l’individuo si fa attraversare dalla creazione. L’opera d’arte che resta è solo un’istantanea, un residuo. Non bisogna quindi mai perdere il gusto di quell’arte che Nietzsche chiama la “più nobile”, ovvero l’arte di far festa>>.

Arrivano quindi a Napoli le superstar dell’Urban Art, artisti non facilmente addomesticabili, proprio come certe rockstar.

Arrivano con una promessa: <<non romperemo il vetro alla Gioconda, non taglieremo le tele di Fontana e non la faremo nell’orinatoio di Duchamp. Apriremo solo le finestre dei musei per far entrare aria nuova dalla strada>>.

 

Finally there’ s  new air in museums.

The most exhaustive exhibition on Urban Art presented in an Italian museum brings to MADRE some of the most important names of the young contemporary Art scene, born from the latest urban and youthful cultures.

Afters years of discussions on the limit between art and comics, the most “comics - corrupted” artists will invade the Napoli COMICON festival.

David Vecchiato ( here in the double role of curator and artist) presents the most recent works of international stars of Urban Art, colleagues and friends as Gary Baseman, Boris Hoppek, Shag, Ian Stevenson, Gary Taxali, Mijn Schatje, Jon Burgerman, Jim Avignon, Junko Mizuno, Glenn Barr, Bigfoot, Naoshi, Ciou, Sergio Mora, Nathan Jurevicius, Joe Ledbetter and others from all over the world.

And also the new phenomenon of Art Toys, strongly supported by MondoPOP Gallery and XL Magazine, will play its game among artworks from street art, skate art, pop surrealism, lowbrow and poster art.

 To complete the scene, Urban Superstar will propose the huge installations of Junko Mizuno, Mijn Shatje and Tokidoki from the private Fornarina collection, presented during the Urban Beauty Show at Louvre in Paris in 2008.

Fornarina joined naturally to the Urban Superstar project as they are one of the first international brands that is investing on new artistic currents promoting their exponents.

Jeremyville from Australia and Mijn Shatje from Paris will be our guest at the inauguration and will offer astonishing performances and meetings with the public! The people will be involved to participate to the performance.

And Italy? Beyond the roman Simone Legno, founder of the Californian Tokidoki brand, will take part to the show Italian artists that shared the last 15 years of underground art experiences and events. As David Vecchiato remebers: “ During these years we refused to be tamed by the logics of old art employees asking us to stop with this imaginary similar to comics, cartoon, tatoos and graffiti.  We experienced on our skin the slowness of our country, facing to loose the opportunity to tell one of the creatives souls of our generation.

As uncle Warhol teached us, we learned how to menage personally the production, distribution and sale of our own art and we reached our international colleagues.  Bringing this vital art from street into a museum, I hope to encourage new young artists from any country to develop new aesthetic senses within their community, with the main purpose to focus on the passions which join us, rather than on the differences that move away.

 Urban Superstar will be an event rich of performances and interactions with people: many Urban collegues and I, belive that the real artistic moment is revealed just in the performance, the specific instant where creation pass through the artist. What remains of the artwork is only a snapshot, a residual. We must never lose the sense of art called as the most noble, by Nitzsche: that is the art to celebrate and have fun".

 The Superstars of Urban Art arrive in Naples, artists not always easy to tame, just as some rockstars.

They will come with a promise: “ We will not break Gioconda glass, neither cut Fontana’s canvas, nor use the bog of Duchamp. We’ll just open museum’s windows to let new air enter from the street”.
